Banks to react to stricter rules. I'm David Brancaccio. It is that most wonderful time of the year

when the heads of big banks go to Capitol Hill to brief senators are they doing with higher interest rates and more?

Also on the minds of bankers propose new rules to make banks more resilient to major

financial shocks. Bank executives worry some of the rules are overkill and could make

financial dealings more expensive for consumers. Marketplace's Nova

Safo has more. For months the banking industry has opposed a set of proposals that would increase the amount of capital they hold to guard against sudden losses.

These rules emerged out of the financial crisis during the Great Recession and they're intended to create uniform standards for giant global banks.

For example, banks would no longer rely on their own internal models for assessing credit risk.

They'd have to use a uniform standard.

Bank executives say the result will be counter to what regulators want, making all sorts of activities,

lending, fee-associated services more expensive for consumers.

This is unnecessary executive say given that banks easily pass the Federal Reserve's stress tests.

Today McDonald's of hamburger fame is holding its investor day presentations a way to update

shareholders on things like restructuring, its formulated burgers, and a new concept called

Cosmic, a reference to a character from another planet in

McDonald's ads from the 1980s. Marketplace's Megan McCarty Carino has that.

McDonald's has been pretty secretive about the new concept but leave it to

people on the internet to go snooping. Here it is I found the cosmic. It looks like

there are going to be four drive-thru lanes.

This really does seem like a love child of a McDonald's, a Sonic, and a Starbucks.
