So this week we are back from our holidays and award season is back in full swing.

The Golden Globes are this Sunday.

We'll all be watching to see who wears what and who gets drunk and

makes weird faces at the camera. But there's a lot going on in New York as well. The New York Film Critics

Circle Awards were last night as we recorded this, the National Board of Review Awards will be tonight there's lots of people in town

lots of handshaking going on so Richard and I will kind of catch up on what happened in the

New York Film Critics Circle Awards before we get into our preview of the Golden Globes but first the

weekend Oscar news I think is all about box office because all of the movies are open. We spend months talking about movies and how audiences will react to them and now they're actually doing it. And even though for a while it looked like this was going to be a

really quiet year for movies that people actually saw at the Oscars, a lot of

movies are doing really, really well. You've got most of them still in

somewhat limited release, but fences, Lala Land, Manchester by the sea, are all really

finding their audiences which I think is a really good sign. Yeah I'm personally

surprised that Manchester by the sea is doing as well as it is just because even though it's a really

really great movie and possibly my favorite movie of this year, you know the whole advance
