My name's Brandon Galey and welcome to episode 110 of The Blog Millionaire.

While the ideal situation for every blogger is to see their traffic continue to rise,

there are going to be times when you experience a traffic dip.

This past August, most health bloggers were hit really hard by the Google Medic Update.

Google made a decision to push the large health sites above the small blogs for most of the

health-related topics. The reason behind this made sense. They wanted the articles in the Google

results to be written or reviewed by medical professionals. The big 800-pound gorillas had the

budgets to make this happen, and most of the solo bloggers

were left out in the cold after the medic update hit.

This is the biggest example of widespread algorithmic pain to bloggers since Panda and Penguin.

These big algorithm changes get lots of press because of the amount of people negatively

affected. However, there have been 27 significant Google algorithm updates in the past two and a half

years. With each of these updates, there are always going to be a percentage of bloggers that

gain traffic and a percentage of bloggers that lose traffic.

And this is just Google.

Pinterest and Facebook are two big blogger traffic sources that also have had plenty of changes that have impacted the traffic of bloggers over the past couple of years.

The bottom line here is that traffic is not always going to go straight up.

When it dips, you need to have a clear plan of attack to find out why it happened and what

you can do to write the ship.
