Summary

Paul tells us that we are living in the “last hour”. The Return of Christ is near. So how should we live while we are waiting in the constant expectancy of His Second Coming? Pastor Gary summarizes Paul’s instruction with five exhortations: (1) Wake up, (2) Cast off, (3) Put on, (4) Walk right, and (5) Think not about how to gratify sinful desires. 0:00.0	Let's go now to Romans chapter 13. If you'll turn with me to Romans chapter 13, we're going to pick
0:05.5	up where we left off before I took some time off. Last time I was with you, we looked at the opening
0:11.4	verses of chapter 13 related to God and government, and now we're going to look at the closing
0:16.3	verses of chapter 13. And I'll start reading at verse 11 down through the end of the chapter. It's just
0:22.4	verse 11 to verse 14. I want you to notice before I start to read, as I'm reading here, the language
0:29.5	of contrasts that Paul uses to make a very important point. He's going to use terms that are opposites that are contrast,
0:40.6	because he's trying to stress a very important point that'll become evident as we read through
0:44.9	this. But follow along as I read her. This is Romans 13, verses 11 to 14. Paul says,
0:51.0	and do this knowing the time. That's very important. Underline that. Do this,
0:56.6	knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep. For now our salvation is nearer
1:08.3	than when we first believed. The night is far spent. The day is at hand.
1:15.8	Therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light.
1:23.8	Let us walk properly as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust,
1:31.2	not in strife and envy, but put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh
1:38.5	to fulfill its lusts.
1:42.0	Now, if you notice here, as I just read through that, Paul uses these contrasting terms.
1:46.6	He talks about darkness and light. He talks about night and day. He talks about being asleep and being
1:54.8	awake. And he talks about casting off and putting on. And he is using these terms to stress a very important
2:04.1	point that all has to do with, look again at the beginning of verse 11, knowing the time.
