Sweet Lord, cities are on fire! The National Guard is tear-gassing protesters. The President

is designated terrorist groups. We might have martial law. Looters are breaking windows and stealing cheesecakes from Starbucks in one of the videos I watched.

You know what I thought we were going to be talking about this week?

Universal Basic Income had a whole program

dedicated to UBI, researched graphs, and everything. But then. Now I know I say this a lot.

But it's worth repeating.

Much of the media narrative from across the political spectrum in our country is just asking,

okay, so who should we hate over and over again and then fighting about if we're hating

the right people or hating them loud enough.

I think human beings have a caveman, coalitional instinct to choose teams and square off.

And 200,000 years ago that may have worked pretty well because we literally just kill each other.

You didn't have to come up with solutions to problems, you didn't have to figure out how to live with people you didn't like,

you just had to make a line in the sand and pick

a side of that line because pretty soon fighting would break out and you drive off the other

team or kill them.

And that won't work now.

It's not enough to just shout Allegiance's ad nauseum.

It feels that way because we have half a million years urging us to form coalitions and

kill each other, but in our time, form teams all you want, the other team

doesn't go into exile in the Hinterlands or die off.

So what's incumbent upon us is figuring out how to solve problems and fix the system to help people.

In most of this episode, we will be focusing on that, identifying what the issues are that we're facing and proposing workable solutions to them.
