What's going on, guys? Welcome back to Jeremy Scott Fins podcast, a radio show.

Coming to the very quick episode here on laughter. And I'm playing off an Instagram post that I shared

0:10.6

the other day where I got more than a handful of messages from all different directions.

0:15.6

And I shared a little quote that I read a long time ago. And the numbers are probably scalable. I'm sure there's a lot of statistics out there. But the quote was this. I'm going to read for my show notes here, so don't get lost. So if you're on IGTV or YouTube, thank you guys for watching. And the quote was, I once heard the average child laughs around 300 times per day. And the average adult laughs around 5. My question is, what the

0:39.7

fuck happened to us as adults that we're not laughing as much anymore as we used to? And regardless

0:44.2

of the actual numbers of where the recent studies kind of place our laugh count for the day,

0:48.2

most of us have hardened. We've gotten harder, obviously, as adults. We've lost some happiness.

0:53.7

We take ourselves way too serious on our way to being, you know, career-driven, quote-unquote, successful adults.

1:00.5

And the amount of messages I got from people saying things and listing off things of why they don't laugh anymore and why they don't have fun, they're sending me things like, well, because they have

1:11.3

a massive amount of debt. You know, their mortgage payments are way too high. They've been divorced.

1:16.3

They're paying alimony. Some people listed the government. Others said the president is the reason

1:21.5

that, you know, they can't laugh or aren't happy anymore. And before I kick you guys the real,

1:26.5

let me say this. Life can beat the shit

1:30.2

out of you. I understand that. It can kick you in the teeth. It can make things really hard.

1:35.3

We've all lost people to illness and cancer and deaths. We've all lived through horrible,

1:41.1

you know, tragic tragedies and situations. And immediately that sucks. I understand it and I feel it just like you do. Trust me, when I say this, my life has been anything but a sunshine and rainbow festival. I mean, it's just like you guys are. My life has been far, far from perfect. But after the age of about 10, I think all of us are a little bit fucked up and we all have shit that we carry with us. But that doesn't mean we can't be happy and we can't laugh and we can't enjoy life. But if the reason that you're unhappy and you're not laughing anymore is because of just the massive amount of bills you have and mortgage payments and car payments in the government and the way that you're seeing the world. My real quick advice would be this.

2:18.5

And I'm not telling you how to spend, you know, your time and your money. But for my personal

2:23.0

experience, if those things are dragging you down and robbing you of happiness, my advice

2:28.4

would be drive a cheaper car, live in a smaller house, don't wear designer clothes or wear your clothes a little bit longer.

2:35.7

Simplify your life in terms of things to maximize your happiness.

2:41.3

Don't sell your life for material shit and a paycheck that's actually robbing you of that.

2:47.1

And so many people get caught up in just life in general and just going through the motions
