China has imposed sanctions on nine UK citizens, including five MPs, for spreading what it calls lies in

disinformation about the country. James, this affects some of the most vocal critics of China

within the Tory party. What has been the justification for this as the Chinese

government and what's the response from the UK government? So Chinese government are essentially

retaliating against the fact that the UK joined with the US, Canada, the EU in sanctioning Chinese

officials involved in the Xinjiang internment program.

The UK government has responded by saying that it's very revealing how China is

sanctioning its critics rather than addressing the situation in Jingjiang.

And Boris Johnson is going to have sent out, I kind of tweet about this.

I mean the UK government needs to do more, though.

It needs to, China is attempting to intimidate the UK government needs to do more though. It needs to,

China is attempting to intimidate the West. It is attempting to raise the price of criticizing

the Chinese Communist Party to a price that people aren't willing to pay. I think the real people

being message being sent by these sanctions is really to businesses, which is, you know,

don't think you can criticise China and human rights and get away of it about there being consequences.

And so I think that, you know, Boris Johnson should invite all of these people sanctioned,
