So we brought on Professor John Rappaport at the University of Chicago Law School to talk

about the range of his research that is focused so much on the police and criminal justice.

I came across him not too long ago because our work intersected around some police union

work and I'm telling you, I learned so much in this conversation.

Good to be here, thanks for having me.

Now I'd love to know, you know, I first came across your work because you are in the

small set of researchers who study the police.

So I'd love to know like what got you into the world of anything around policing?

Was it like your own personal experience with the police or was it like a TV show or

was it, I don't know, something else?

And I'm interested in what does it mean that there's a subset of people like you who are

actually law professors and not like, I don't know, in my mind, people who do these sort

of studies are like full time statisticians.
