Welcome to Walking as Fitness. This is a podcast of action, providing a little extra motivation to help you keep that fitness

0:15.0

promise you made to yourself. Hi, I'm Dave. I started walking for fitness in 2013. Still take an intentional fitness walk every single day. I'm walking right now and I would love to have you join me for the next 10 minutes.

One of the great things about fitness is if you want to, you can tap into that competitive part of you.

0:42.9

And it almost doesn't matter what the fitness activity is. You can always set a personal

record. For example, if you lift weights, your personal record would be how much weight you

1:54.0

And obviously this is something that could grow over time.

1:58.0

So if you're just getting started with fitness and you have a step tracker,

2:02.8

whether it's a Fitbit, an Apple Watch, a Garmin, and you're tracking your steps, you're counting

2:10.4

your steps, perhaps your first high watermark, your first personal record might be 5,000 steps, which is still more than

2:21.7

the average person walks over the course of a day. And then you could aim for 10,000. And you

2:28.2

can just keep going higher. And you can do that over the course of years, actually.

2:34.9

It doesn't have to be done.

2:36.5

Okay, I'm just getting started within the first month.
