Summary

Welcome to an essential conversation about money with Michelle Walker. This is often the least favourite part of being an artist, but being profitable means being sustainable. How we manage the often-avoided subject and working out your relationship with money is key for your art career growth.

We talk about calming your nervous system so that you can approach your money matters with a clear and positive attitude, thinking of your relationship with money in a rather surprising personal way. Let Michelle introduce you to your inner finance manager so you can get a better grip on charging your worth and understanding your business better. We've all experienced the energy drag which can arise around this topic - and how good we can feel when we can change our approach. Grab a pen - you'll need it!

Take this further and join Michelle on her upcoming Money Mojo challenge which kicks off soon

if we're feeling like one we know money is a stress point for us that's a you know a light bulb because stress is the antithesis for where we want to be in our neural brain function. Hello and welcome to Art Juice. This is honest, generous and humorous conversations that will feed your creative soul and get you thinking with me Alice Sheridan and today I am warmly

0:35.2

welcoming a guest to come to join us. Her name is Michelle Walker. She is an artist in

0:42.3

Australia and a money coach. And that's what she's here for because she has been a guest in my membership twice for some truly revealing and helpful sessions and I thought we've got to get Michelle on the

0:56.3

podcast talk to you because this stuff needs unpicking.

1:00.6

Welcome Michelle, it's lovely to have you here. Thank you so much,

1:04.1

Ellison. Hi everyone. So before we get into the usual podcast,

1:08.8

just give us a little brief intro of how did this kind of combination of art and money come about for you.

1:16.1

I'd love to hear the background for that.

1:17.8

Well I'm based on the East Coast of Australia.

1:21.5

I've had a varied career, one could say. I think I'm up to my seventh

1:27.2

career. But I spent many years working in the environment field, a lover of nature and, you know, deeply passionate about helping people connect to nature.

1:38.0

And what came out of that was also an understanding that I love helping people connect to their creativity and just six, seven years ago I decided to take a sideways step into coaching from my consulting business and I really wanted to help people

1:56.2

connect to their creativity and what came up was money. Money was the block that stopped people from taking the leap.

2:03.8

And so I went on a bit of a circuitous route and explored money and money coaching

2:11.1

and studied that for some time so that I could help people really

2:15.7

embrace their creative passions and their dreams and take care of the money piece on

2:20.5

along the way. I love that that's a complete layer upon layer of unwrapping isn't it

2:26.4

starting from like what's a core essential what stops you getting there what's you up, let's just peel this back gently layer by layer because it's difficult to do all at once, isn't it?

2:38.0

It is, I know the metaphor of journey has been terribly overused.

2:43.2

But it's so I so relate to it and really through I've been running my own business for

2:49.3

16 nearly 17 years and that has morphed through a number of different forms and most recently in the last two and a half years I've embraced my art full time so I'm bringing some of the business coaching that I used to do into the space of being an artist and I'm still finding myself tripping myself up with my own thinking you know it's time to look again at how I see money in the new context of an

3:16.1

art business.
