From frozen snacks trying to be cool to the surprising power of lo-fi content, Jay breaks down what’s trending, what’s actually useful for marketers, and even how to hide your Instagram stories before you ruin a holiday surprise. Oh, and somehow it all ends with Hallmark movies and Mormon wives—because of course it does.

Welcome to Do This Not That, the podcast from marketers.

0:05.0

We share quick tips, things you can do right now, and then we add a little bit of chaos at the end of every episode.

We also keep it short, like this intro. Let's check it out.

We are back for what's up this week from the Do This Not That podcast.

0:20.0

This is our super short episode

0:21.0

we break down what is going on in business and marketing and life and all the things so let's get

0:26.2

into it first off i think this nonsense of six seven might officially be dead uh and if you don't know

0:33.4

what six seven is that's amazing you have a life you're not like the rest of us this whole thing

0:38.1

that started with middle schoolers and i don't know what but whenever you say six seven which really

0:42.1

has no meaning everyone freaks out but the reason i think it's over and dead is that bagel bites i

0:48.2

don't know if you saw this put out all over social media that's like the thing bagel bites is the thing

0:53.7

that you could buy these bagels and you

0:55.0

could heat them up in the microwave or whatever or cook them and they're really good and they're

0:59.6

like mini bagels or bagel balls or whatever you want to call them. Anyway, they came out with a big

1:05.2

announcement. They put it all over the place and they said this. For years, we've directed our

1:10.1

consumers to wait 60 seconds before enjoying

1:13.5

their hot bagel bites out of the oven but after extensive research we hereby are amending our

1:19.6

recommendation to include an additional six to seven seconds i'm such a doofus that when i saw this i was

1:27.3

like really you have to wait another six to seven seconds. And then I kept on reading. And I'm like, this whole thing is so stupid. And then it keeps on going by saying it's not exactly six and not exactly seven. It's around 66 or 67 or blah, blah, blah, blah. And it goes on and on and on. It went kind of viral because, know, they leaned into it, which, by the way, is what everyone should be doing in marketing. You got to lean into the thing of the moment. But I'm pretty sure that once Bagel Bites is releasing a social media announcement, it's no longer cool for anybody to say, not that it ever was cool. So good job, Bagel Bites trying to be cool. Bad job the rest of us because we're

2:02.2

uncool. What else is going on? Well, in the world of things that you actually might use in your

2:07.6

marketing, there's some really cool new data out from World Data Research about the impact of using

2:13.0

lo-fi content. And I'm a big believer in this if you're not on the lo-fi content train whether
