Another week that I have the pleasure and privilege of spending with you is underway. And what a week it seems set to be with attention inevitably being directed towards

Qatar. I understand that not everybody enjoys football or even gives a fig about it. But it's the

World Cup, you know. What's it like if you're a partner of someone who loves sport and you don't? It's always a World Cup of some kind. You said, no, darling, you don't understand. It's the FA Cup final. No, darling, you don't understand. It's the Six Nations. It's a test match against Australia. You've got no idea. It's the Tour de France. It only happens. So actually, there's pretty much an event every... I've took my wife to point this out to me. I've got to be honest. There's pretty much an event every week, if not every day, when you could realistically, as an armchair sports fan, claim that this was... No, this is different from all the other stuff that I watch. This is something I really need to watch. But if there is a pinnacle

of the pyramid, then surely it's the, it's the football World Cup, isn't it? Well, it is for Brits.

I don't suspect it is for Americans, for example. It's the Olympics. It's the Euros. It's the Commonwealth

game. Come on. We've got to watch this. We've got to watch this. It's the third round of the FA Cup. It's a huge, huge event. I do feel some sympathy for people who don't give a fig about any of it.

But that in a way makes it good news that there is so much politics attached to this year's event.

I mean, there are some silly things on there that are

said in pursuit of pungent opinions, but the idea that sport and politics should never mix.

In fact, I can't really think of anything that doesn't have politics running through it,

like Blackpool through a stick of rock. Everything is politics. Politics is everything.
