It's good to be here.

One of the humblest men, one of the most patient of men, because today I would like to walk with you on the road to Amas and imagine that our Lord is present, but that since we can't hear him, I'd like to speak about some big ideas.

You know, I remember when as a kid hearing the question, what's the big idea?

Well, that's the question I'd like to address in this

particular episode of the road to Amas. And taking the story of the road to Amas as our point

of departure, I'm looking especially at Luke 24, verse 37, where we read, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he, that is Jesus, interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Now, I just want to stop for a moment and look at that phrase that I read and emphasized.

He interpreted them in all the scriptures, the things concerning himself. Now, we know what that entails because it's already

clear, beginning with Moses and all of the prophets. But as someone who has gone through

college and seminary and doctoral studies, I know how impossible

it is to interpret all the scriptures in an afternoon.

It's sometimes hard to get through all of a couple of verses.

That's right. It's impossible for me to get through all of Matthew in one semester.
