avoiding the King's speech, because that's where we're going to delve deep.

Where, what does it tell us about this new government in all kinds of different ways?

Miranda Green isn't here with us in the studio, but she will be joining us by the magic of podcasts

to give her take on the King's

speech shortly. But first of all, our takes on the week. Ian, have you got a non-King's speech

take? Quite a few actually. I mean, it's difficult to narrow down. My major takeaway from the

week was the selection of J.D. Vance as nominee, Republican

nominee to be vice president if Donald Trump wins.

And that for me was we talked last week about defense and Europe and how worried

Europe should be.

But if you look at what he said about Ukraine,

about the possibility of peace talks, about American commitments to European defence and security,

if we weren't worried before JD Vance was chosen, we should be worried now. I stress,

of course, that the vice president doesn't actually have direct

control of policy, but it will, but it's another voice, someone Trump clearly likes and respects,

who is amplifying those voices calling on America to step back from Europe. So I think

that's my takeaway this week is that what we keep thinking
