Three minutes after ten is a time. A very good morning indeed to you. I almost hesitate to do predictions, but it looks to me like they

might be trying to soften us up for a claim. And of course, there'll be plenty of client

journalist queuing up to help them achieve it, a claim that the current crisis is our fault

and not their fault. I don't know how you sort of scapegoat each other on something like this,

but it looks to me, it just looks to me as if we're in the foothills of the worst fortnight yet

since records began, that being sort of roughly March of last year. And I mean, could anybody

really look me in the eye and say James that's just

not fair if there's one thing you can rely upon this government to do it's to take responsibility

for their own mistakes I was looking back at because such is the nature of my glorious existence

I was looking back at um front pages and coverage because you forget do this I do this? I do this for a living. So I suspect

that if I'm suffering from the malaise that I'm about to describe, then for people who don't have

to do this for a living, it must be a hundred times worse. You forget how quickly the world turns.

You forget how quickly we lurch from one ludicrous confected argument to another. And you

marvel at how quickly people who were shouting from their rooftops about how everything was going

too far just what, 20 minutes ago? I mean, metaphorically speaking, two weeks ago, two months ago.

Oh, it's all gone too far. We must keep the schools open. What about

the sandwich shops? Do this, do that. Do this, do that. And then you see that our deaths

crashing through the 81,000 mark and the new cases we remain second in the world today, second

only to the United States, which, well, you don't need me to describe the other problems they've got going on there.

And you sort of find yourself wondering whether you dreamt it. Were people really writing newspaper articles and queuing up in television and radio studios to insist that lockdowns are too restrictive, too excessive?

And you think, yeah, they work, because some of them, some of them
