Summary

"We have a tendency to minimize our sins. We have a tendency to be more sorry that we got caught than grieved over our sins." Ever heard the phrase "easier said than done"? Nowhere is that more true than with apologies. Sometimes simply saying "sorry" isn't enough. We teach kids how to apologize, but teaching them how to repent isn’t as easy. Learn what repentance really is (and isn't) from https://www.thecrossingchurch.com/staff/keith-simon/ (Keith) as he studies https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+3%3A1-14&version=NIV (Luke 3.1-14) to continue our series on https://www.thecrossingchurch.com/podcast-series/how-to-follow-jesus/ (Learning to Follow Jesus). Welcome to Tim Minut Bible Talks, where we connect the Bible to your life and the time it takes to get to work.

0:10.0

I'm Keith Simon.

0:11.0

And I'm Patrick Miller.

0:13.0

Right now we're learning how to follow Jesus by working our way through the Gospel of Luke.

0:18.0

One thing every Christian knows about themselves is that they are sinners. Yes, they trust in Christ. Yes, they want to follow Jesus, but every Christian knows that they continue to sin and that they are guilty of their own sin.

0:35.3

So how do we process our own sin? How do we think about it? How do we deal with it? Do we just ignore it?

0:42.2

kind of flip it over?

0:45.0

Like when I was a kid, if I spilled something

0:47.3

on a seat cushion in the living room,

what I would do is I would flip it over

0:51.9

so that maybe no one would see it. Is that how we're

1:15.7

or naughty for our sin but that's not what repent means.

1:19.4

Repent means to change direction. In order to change direction you've got to kind of own your

1:26.3

sin, take it to God, and ask Him to change you. Let me tell you what repentance isn't and let me do that in a brief story about a

1:36.6

guy named Jim Baker. Jim and Tammy Faye Baker were a married couple who started a

1:41.5

television ministry that kind of became this big empire.

1:45.8

It was well known on Christian television stations, but also they developed a big theme park. It was a big deal.

1:53.8

There's a guy in our church,

1:54.9

John Wigger, who has written a book about them
