Summary

Oakley Carlson was only five years old when she went missing while under the care of her biological parents. Originally placed with a foster family, Oakley was a happy, loving, and friendly baby. But after she was placed back with her abusive parents, she started allegedly acting out, and looking physically unwell in photos. Her foster parents were fighting government services every step of the way to get her some help, but after multiple failings from DCYF and CPS, Oakley disappeared.

0:24.0	to prepare to discuss this one today. It's no secret that since I had my own child a
0:31.0	year ago, I have covered a lot less cases involving children and that's honestly because
0:40.0	it is so much mentally for me to handle. It is so different being a parent seeing these
0:45.6	cases now. I just have a whole new perception of things, a whole new perspective and this
0:53.3	was difficult to work on. However, it is a case that desperately needs attention and I wanted
0:59.5	to encourage myself to just try and do it. And I wanted to shout out those, you know who you are,
1:07.6	who have sent tons of messages to me about this case submitted and got other people to submit a
1:14.5	lot of forms to my request form asking me to talk about Oakley Carlson. And I just want to
1:22.4	warn you ahead of time that this, this is very difficult, very, very upsetting information that we're
1:28.8	going to be going over. But like I said, it's extremely important. This case needs more eyes on it
1:35.2	and they need action. I've been lucky enough to have connected with Jamie Joe, Oakley's foster mom.
1:41.4	And she has been very helpful through this process. She's going to be featured in the episode
1:47.7	today and she's also going to be clearing up some information or helped me clear up information
1:52.8	that has been reported incorrectly. And so it was vital to have her involved and I'm very grateful
1:58.7	that she took the time to do so. I know it's not easy. Today we're going to be talking a lot about
2:03.1	the failures of the system, specifically the foster care system, even more specifically the Washington
2:09.5	State Department of Children, Youth and Families or DCYF. If you're familiar with the foster care
