The This is hell.

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born.

Now is the time of monsters.

This is hell. The most often cited quotation of late here on the show has been the famous line from Upton Sinclair. It is difficult to get a man

to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.

It makes sense, why bite the hand that feeds you?

However, if that hand that feeds you, for which you are expected to show a fawning amount

of gratitude toward, has been paying you less and less, leading to even starvation wages,

making it more and more difficult to feed

yourself, well, biting that big fat, monstrous, and what can only be assumed to be a delicious

hand may not sound like such a bad idea, especially if you're hungry, and that same monstrous

hand has also been very busy destroying the world you depend upon to live.

So biting it out of hunger makes sense on its own.

But biting it out of spite, that sounds pretty good too.

One of our myriad problems facing us today is the challenge faced in the Sinclair's obviously true axiom.

It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.

That is, while we know that we are paid to do something to contribute to our ongoing climate crisis, for instance,

or the overconsumption that's driving so much environmental destruction,

we keep doing it anyway out of a sense of our own survival within the system that has been created for us, that is imposed upon us.
