lockdown chiefs podcast. Welcome back to lockdown chiefs. Things are going on in

chiefs kingdom and around the league as they always do. We're going to bring you up to speed about one thing in particular. the I'm Ryan Tracy the founder of Rogue Analytics and your host in RGR football.

And I'm Chris Clark and there is a little bit to talk about today.

Kansas City actually made a signing. I think this is a good signing. I'm not sure

how you feel about it. But Daniel Sworensen is back on a one-year deal for two and a half, basically

two and a half million dollars. It's fully guaranteed. Now, there's two things I want to point out really

quick. First, his base salary last year was 3.6 million. So it's down

over a million dollars from his base salary last year. But second, his cap number last year was 4.75 million so it's down you know 2.3 million almost from his cap number last year so to me I like the signing I think it's a good deal and I think that he has a role in this defense.

Yeah, I mean his knowledge of the defense, I think he has slowed down a little bit saying the

last season or two, but I think it's still worth the contract.

I think at this rate, I think it's a pretty good deal he it

allows them to get play out of him when they can it allows him to help on special

teams which we know that he does and the captain of special teams just want to

point that out oh yeah without Sherman he definitely is you have a very good point. Well he was a captain this past year

During the playoffs he was their special teams captain along with butker. I didn't even realize that looking back on it. But yeah, you definitely need that aspect and I think it doesn't preclude them from drafting and safety. I think they still may and let him grow into the role with Dan there to play with

Juan and Tyron and I think they're very comfortable with that. I think this was an easy

signing for them in that their level of risk at other positions, I think, has made them take a little bit more stock in what is the safe plays, the guys that they know understand what to do, maybe not necessarily putting

that premium on upping the level of execution.

Yeah, and I do think that it's a, like I said, at the start, I think this is a good sign for them.

I think that it gives them a third safety that they trust.

And that's important going into this off season.
