Not available in all states. Fred, how would you characterize world leaders' responses to Donald Trump being reelected as president of the United States?

Well, I mean, I know that many of them are panicked.

Borderline terrified.

Fred Kaplan is Slate's war stories correspondent.

Why do you say that?

I mean, they've experienced him before.

They know that he is not a fan of alliances in general.

You know, like at one point, when he was president,

somebody was explaining NATO to him.

And he said, wait, you're telling me that I have to go to war of Lithuania's attack?

Panicked or not, world leaders are preparing to work with Donald Trump, sending him public

congratulations on social media, calling him privately to wish him the best. In the last week,

Trump has reportedly spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,

Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky, and Russia's Vladimir Putin.
