There's this tape of what it sounded like when a Starbucks in Buffalo, New York became

the first shop to unionize.

This was back in December.

This is about 20 people, most of them really young, in jeans and flannel.

And it's like they've just watched their hometown basketball team dominate at the final

four.

If they could rush the court, rip off their shirts and twirl them above their heads, they

would totally do that.

Ronnie Mola reports over at Recode.

She says this release of energy, it came after weeks of mounting tension.

The union organizers thought they had the votes.

There weren't that many of them after all.

But in the weeks beforehand, they'd been inundated by visitors from corporate headquarters.

It's absolutely a stressful situation when you have the people who pay your bills, who

are responsible for your livelihood coming in and working with you very intensely all

of a sudden and being like, oh, here, there's nothing wrong, we'll fix it, we'll fix it.

So was there a sense of relief when they won the union vote?

Absolutely, they had a feeling, they talked to a lot of people, they knew what they wanted

and they were right.

So yeah, there was a lot of relief.

And then I think they just kind of got right back to work because all of a sudden you get

all of this inbound from Starbucks across the country.
