a few weeks back. So Friday, June 17th, I got a call from a friend I had been hanging out with

the weekend prior and basically all at once I learned he was pretty sure he had monkey pox. His partner

and multiple of his friends thought they had monkey pox. They were just waiting on the department

of public health and L.A. to confirm that and I was writing a time frame of when I would have been

exposed. So on that call slash like right after it, I checked myself and noticed some bumps that I

hadn't seen before. So in a span of like 15 minutes, I went from like living my normal life to

oh shut, I have monkey pox. Next came the flu-like symptoms, the fever, sore throat.

It was like okay, I definitely have some kind of viral thing going on and then that Monday, I went in,

had a physical exam. My doctor was like, you know, it was like I was ET. It was like a patient zero

like quarantine zone going on. Was it like a full face shield and everything? Oh yeah, it was like

full PPE. Like I think they had like the computer keyboard covered. It was kind of bizarre.

One of the weird things about getting hit with an emerging infectious disease,

not quickly realized, is that no one knows exactly what to do with you and when it comes to monkey

pox specifically, even other people who are infected, they may not want to talk about it.
