For a couple of weeks now, my feed's been filling up with videos and posts about Newark, New Jersey.

And what's going on in front of an immigration detention center there, Delaney Hall.

We begin with the ongoing tensions outside Delaney Hall in Newark, where a group of

pro-ice demonstrators confronted protesters who have built the ground.

Maybe you've seen these clips, too.

Video of protests and counter-protests.

Combat batches for Trump.

Law and order.

There is tape of state troopers advancing in full riot gear.

Before that, there was footage of ice agents with pepper spray.

They even pepper sprayed a senator.

You can see New Jersey Senator Andy Kim trying to de-escalate the clash

and getting in the middle of protesters and ice agents.

He ended up getting pepper sprayed as well.

The senator ended up having to have his eyes washed out.

At one point, New Jersey's governor showed up at Delaney Hall.

She said even she couldn't access the place.

But Slate's Eamon Ismail lives just a half hour walk away.

So we asked him to give us a report from the ground.

I've been down to Delaney Hall a couple times and it's just exhausting to be there.

Amon says the first thing you need to know about Delaney Hall is that it's in this part of town he calls the sacrifice zone.
