I called up David Dan to talk about President Trump's big, beautiful bill, which is steamrolling through Congress.

And honestly, a kind of weird time.

There's an actual vote happening right now.

And there are 16 Republicans that are holding out on this vote and that it's determinative.

So, you know, this could fall apart any minute now.

This was around two in the afternoon, Eastern, yesterday.

The bill had been through one round in the House already,

gotten sent over to the Senate,

and was now back in the lower chamber,

a hair's breadth away from the president's desk.

All along with this reconciliation bill,

the president has put these deadlines forward, and he wanted to be

signing it by July 4th. What's the urgency here?

The urgency is that the bill is very unpopular. And the more that it is out there, the more

unpopular it will get. And the Senate passed the bill only about 20 minutes after releasing the text.

What?

Yes. So it's, and even, you know, the House, when they got back the Senate version,

they're still finding new stuff in it.

There have been new provisions that have popped up that nobody would sort of cop to actually

putting in.

Nobody knew who added parts of the bill.

This is like everyone's least favorite Google Doc.
