chapter by chapter, book by book. And on Sundays, we draw a text from that upcoming study.

So why don't you turn with me to Mark chapter 10 for today's study? Mark 10.

Growing up on a farm, a little farm when I was a kid, we had horses, cattle, sheep, rabbits, quail, chickens, all kinds of critters and creatures.

And I had a next-door neighbor buddy who was four years older than I was, but we hung out.

And I usually was tagging along with some of his adventures but we had a lot of

it was kind of Tom Sawyer huck finn type stuff but one of our favorite uh pastimes in the summer

was to trap animals uh we had live we had most of our traps were very humane uh for you portlandia

people uh but uh you know we'd catch everything from squirrels to skunks.

True story.

But my dad would give me a dollar every time I trapped a gopher.

And we had a big field where our cows were and just gopher mounds everywhere.

And so my dad said, a dollar a gopher. This is back in the

1970s where a dollar was actually worth something to a kid. And it was great. Now my gopher

traps were such that they were these little metal traps that had a little flap door on them,

but they had these two large hooks that you'd spring with a big spring open,

and then you'd put the little door up and lock the spring open, and the little unsuspecting

gopher would come crawling through this hole, and he'd push through the door. I wanted to put

stickers on the door, you know, say, welcome, or, you know, good luck, or this is not a way to get

ahead. Because when he'd walk through the door,

the two springs would go,

ching right through its brains.
