So you can observe two facts, two phenomena, and presume that one causes the other, but you can't prove it just because both phenomena exist.

Do you know the best example of that?

You are statistically, if you drown, you are statistically more likely to have recently had an ice cream or an ice lollipop.

Did you know that?

But to suggest that having an ice cream or an ice lollipop makes you more likely to drown would of course be wrong.

That's actually one of my favourite things ever.
