Three minutes after ten is the time. This could be a coincidence, but we will list in a moment the number of justice ministers in conservative governments over the last few years who have actually

ended up leaving the party and or awaiting results of some general election conclusions and

or leaving parliament altogether. I wonder why that would be genuinely. I wonder whether it could be a realisation once you come face to face with reality

in the way that Philip Lee or David Gork or Rory Stewart had done,

that tabloid friendly right-wing rhetoric doesn't actually solve any of the problems

currently being faced by the criminal justice system. I also know that I have been

told on this program over the last nine years by prison officers, probation officers and police

officers that there were massive problems, avoidable problems on the horizon. But you'll remember

the former Home Secretary Theresa May was adamant that cuts had no impact upon crime.

The father of one of the men murdered on Friday made an impassioned plea.

And as you read or heard that impassioned plea, you would like me have felt your heart sink in the knowledge that it was absolutely never going

to be respected. But he made an impassioned plea for people not to make political capital

out of the murder of his son, Jack Merritt, and his colleague Saskia Jones.

By the end of the day, his plea had been roundly ignored by various claims and counterclaims.

Boris Johnson trying to make an argument on television on Sunday morning that seems to have been even further removed from reality

than his claim that the Queen's speech had somehow been defeated in Parliament when it was

categorically passed. I will never know. As long as I live, I will never know how an interviewer

can sit in a studio and be told by a prime minister that the queen's speech was defeated

and not point out that it had actually passed. But hey, I'm an old-fashioned fella. Five minutes

after ten is the time. So it is, it's a heartbreaking story on every imaginable level. I stumbled
