I'm Gaelin Drake.

Usually, when a party is locked out of power in Washington, like the Republican party is today,

there's plenty of internal debate about policy messaging and who should leave the party next.

Think back to this time four years ago.

The 2016 post-mortem was practically its own genre.

And Democratic senators were jockeying for airtime and public hearings trying to get that viral campaign-launching moment.

That hasn't quite been the case for the GOP after the 2020 election.

Many Republicans don't acknowledge that the party legitimately lost the presidency.

And former President Trump remains both popular within the party and eligible for another term.

So introspection, at least publicly, is rare.

And the expectation is that if Trump wants the 2024 nomination, it's hit.

But some Republicans are still jockeying for position to be the next leader of the party.

After all, electoral politics are fickle and hard to predict, and it's certainly possible the next presidential nominee of the Republican party is not Trump.

So who else may try to guide the GOP out of the wilderness and on what platform?

Well, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has some ideas.

And today, we're going to take a look at his politics, how he shaped Florida, and how he could shape the Republican party.

He's considered to be in the political mold of Trump, but more disciplined.
