Hi, my name is John Kim and I'm a therapist who went through his own

purpose because self-help doesn't have to be so complicated. So I've been really

obsessed with this idea. It's not an idea. It's a concept. It's actually it's a mindset and it is called lateral thinking

Most of us think vertically meaning meaning when we are stuck, especially creatively, we start

digging a deeper ditch, meaning we look for solutions in our whole by digging deeper instead of coming out of the ditch and going

to other people's lawns.

Not only looking for solutions outside of the box, but in other boxes. So let me give you an example. And I think I'm obsessed with this because as a writer, I'm always thinking of creative solutions and

different mindsets into my writing so writing can get stale if you're just

writing on default if you're you know because we all have a pattern and

and it's safe thing with our creative process so by just thinking vertically

you're not stretching your creativity you're not flipping anything on its head

you're not being fresh you're just kind of you know doing the same thing but kind of white

knuckling if you get stuck.

And an example of lateral thinking

is back in a day when I used to be a screenwriter,

they used to have these log lines for movies. They would say something like, you know, what if it was

Back to the Future meets Friday 13th or you know, if it's goodwill hunting meets

Shit I don't know aliens

But but here's here's what's lateral about that. Yes, they're all movies, but they're being
