You've probably read it before. If you've been listening to 10 minute Bible talks for a while now, you've

definitely heard it mentioned at least a few times. It's a popular and encouraging text

as it takes its audience through specific examples of men and women who lived lives of faith.

Oftentimes though, these texts, like their original tellings in the Old Testament,

are taken out of context to encourage believers to take specific

action like each of these people did. Have faith like Sarah. When God isn't giving you what you're

asking for, have faith like she did. When God is giving you what you're asking for, have faith like she did.

When God is asking something hard of you, have faith like Noah to be different in a world of darkness.

The problem is that when we pick these individual stories out,

stories of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Sarah, Abraham, and more,

we miss the larger story that Chapter 11 is telling

by compiling all of these examples together.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
