0:21.0	You've probably read it before. If you've been listening to 10 minute Bible talks for a while now, you've
0:24.0	definitely heard it mentioned at least a few times. It's a popular and encouraging text
0:30.0	as it takes its audience through specific examples of men and women who lived lives of faith.
0:36.6	Oftentimes though, these texts, like their original tellings in the Old Testament,
0:41.6	are taken out of context to encourage believers to take specific
0:45.5	action like each of these people did. Have faith like Sarah. When God isn't giving you what you're
0:51.1	asking for, have faith like she did. When God is giving you what you're asking for, have faith like she did.
0:53.7	When God is asking something hard of you, have faith like Noah to be different in a world of darkness.
0:59.2	The problem is that when we pick these individual stories out,
1:02.6	stories of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Sarah, Abraham, and more,
1:06.7	we miss the larger story that Chapter 11 is telling
1:09.3	by compiling all of these examples together.
1:12.8	Chapter 11 opens like this.
1:16.0	Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
1:21.7	For by it, the people of old received their commendation. things not made out of things that are
1:23.0	people of old received their commendation.
1:25.8	By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God
1:30.2	so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
