Summary

One of the leading voices on birthing and raising a baby naturally, along with plenty of other holistic principles for Ob-Gyn medicine, is my guest on this podcast: Dr. Nathan Riley, of Beloved Holistics.

Nathan is a board-certified obstetrician in California advocating for autonomous birth. Through his experiences as a hospice care provider he learned that choices around end-of-life care are no different from choices in birth: What matters is that mothers feel in charge of their bodies during their birth experiences. He argues that birth is much more than the standard metrics of vital signs, length of labor, fetal status, or any variable routinely measured in labor in the medical model of care.

Nathan also recently launched his "Born Free Method," a course aimed at empowering expectant parents to take control of their birthing experience by making informed choices and advocating for themselves within the medical system. Joined by co-instructor Sara Rosser, CPM, Nathan's course provides guidance and support to help parents feel confident and supported as they navigate the transition into parenthood, emphasizing the importance of personal sovereignty and self-determination throughout the process (use code BEN10 to save 10% on the Born Free Method).

Hear one courageous OB's perspective on his role in the birth process: Supporting your sovereignty and your choice without coercion or judgment. Finally, listen to the end of this podcast for a thought-provoking discussion on plant medicines and entheogens!

you are transforming. There's an old you that is dying. There's a new version of you that's

being born, just like with this baby that's coming Earthside. When women come to me and say,

0:18.0

I felt like I was going to die, you did die. There was this old identity that is gone. There is a

0:24.9

transformation that's going to happen here. And if we don't honor that as a true ceremony and we

0:31.5

don't have a closing piece to that where we integrate the stress of this incredibly challenging

0:36.1

experience, a lot of women are left with what they actually report as trauma.

Faith, family, fitness, health, performance, nutrition, longevity, ancestral living,

Let's talk magnesium. Not only does it really, really help with things like

1:06.5

constipation and smooth poops, but it is amazing for relaxation at night. And when you're pushing

1:12.8

your brain at high levels, you go through a lot more magnesium. Like if you're taking a

1:16.0

new tropics, smart drugs, coffee, stuff like that, magnesium deficiency sets in even faster.

1:20.9

Now the fact is most people are depleted in magnesium. Why? Because we eat food from crappy soil.

1:27.0

Soils overworked. It's mineral depleted. It lacks organic matter. All of those things would normally

1:31.3

help plants get minerals from the soil. But now they don't get as much minerals from the soil.

1:36.4

I don't know if it's true, but I read that if you had to eat like one orange, now you would have

1:40.0

to eat 10 to get the same amount of nutrients and minerals. And I don't know about you. I don't

1:43.5

have time to unpeel any 10 oranges. And again, I don't know how much research there is behind that.

1:48.0

But I do know that soil is less rich in minerals. And I do know I feel amazing when I take magnesium.

1:54.4

There's a whole bunch of different forms of magnesium and magnesium can get confusing because
