President Trump recently announced a sweeping change to the H-1B visa program, and the proposed

changes involve a $100,000 supplemental payment for those who wish to obtain this type of visa.

Can you give us top line what this presidential proclamation says about the H-1B visa program?

Well, H-1B visas are important because they often represent the only practical way for a high-skilled

foreign national to work long-term in the United States.

And what this proclamation does is say that if an employer wants to bring in someone new

on an H-1B visa and they're outside the country, there will be an additional $100,000

fee placed on that. That's going to be likely prohibitive and there's a lot of confusion

over the weekend on who this applies to.

Those were going to be my very next questions.

Do we know with this $100,000 supplemental payment

if it's on the part of the employer or the visa applicant themselves,

the individual, to pay that amount of money?

Well, first of all, it would be paid by the employer.

The employer is the one that petitions for the individual.
