0:31.0

Welcome back to Buckeye Talk. It is another Buckeye football futures episode. I'm Nathan Baird, along with Steven Means from Cleveland.com.

0:38.0

We are coming off of a big commitment for Ohio State football Luke Montgomery from Fendley committed on Thursday afternoon.

0:47.0

Steven was there. He was our boots on the ground for the big announcements. So today on BFF, we're going to talk a lot about Montgomery. We're going to talk about what happens next.

0:57.0

And then we're going to get into a bunch of questions from our lovely and talented textures who sent us a number of topics that we can get into about Ohio State recruiting.

1:06.0

But let's start with Montgomery. Steven was this. I'm trying to remember is this the one of the last time you were at one of these announcements in state, just because the pandemic interrupted that sort of thing for a while, right?

1:18.0

Yeah, probably like 2019 was probably the last time I was in person at one of these. And I forgot how weird they are when they're doing it through like a television network, because you're just kind of sitting there quietly, because you can't hear the questions that they're asking on CBS, because he's got headphones in.

1:35.0

It comes a point where the family sits down and he and I was like, Hey, guys, I got to do this thing first before I tell everybody where I'm going to school. And so we're just kind of sitting here watching him talk to the screen and having no idea what the conversation is. And so it is, it's, it's cool, but being there in person kind of kills the vibe a little bit.

1:54.0

All of the football superstars who listen to us, the high school up and coming prospects. If you want to get maximum attention for your commitment, I think February 17th is a good date.

2:08.0

Was it a who's who of Ohio State media that were in that gym yesterday?

2:14.0

Yeah, I mean, I think every beat was represented in some capacity. So yeah, it was.

2:22.0

I think if the fact that he's from Ohio and everybody's kind of known Ohio State was the favorite for two years already wasn't going to give away where he was going. It was the fact that every single member of the media and there was from Ohio State beat basically.

2:35.0

Obviously, when JT two in the low out commits or not our business and their people to Oregon for them, but this is, you know, or Washington, I'm sorry, but this is backyard.

2:45.0

This is just a couple hours away in Finley was, was there a decided pro Ohio State vibe in that gym? Regardless of the media.

2:56.0

Oh, yeah, definitely. There's like students who all had like Ohio State had his own and just it was, yeah, it was like obviously because he had the T shirt on, but it was like zipped up so you couldn't really see it, but it wasn't zipped up enough so you could kind of see the Ohio State logo on it. Yeah, it was.

3:11.0

We all knew why we were there and we were kind of joking about it because obviously I pre-written most of that stuff for the announcement and like somebody from another beat.

3:20.0

I was like finishing up something on it and he was like, now Steven, you can't just assume things like that you should probably have a Notre Dame one to this like, no, I should not just have no house.

3:29.0

Yeah, but it was that we all knew what the deal was. I think most people have known for a while.

3:34.0

Yeah, you know, sometimes you do have to write those others and we've all flushed just hundreds of words.

3:41.0

I remember when I covered basketball and you had already now when I cover Ohio State football and you have guys who are deciding between NBA draft or not.

3:49.0

NFL draft or not and you've got to write both versions of that and kind of the version of what it means and if they stay or go.

3:56.0

And so yeah, a lot of our job is just writing stuff that gets flushed and some people say maybe that's warranted even the stuff that we write that they get to read.
