0:11.9	And I'm Patrick Miller. Right now we are asking who is Jesus?
0:17.2	What do you think Jesus wants from you? In Mark's Gospel, the first command that Jesus gives
0:22.2	is the kingdom of God has come near, so that's just a fact, and now comes the command,
0:27.6	repent and believe the good news. So what's it mean to repent and believe?
0:33.2	Let me tell you a little story from the time of Jesus.
0:36.1	About 30 years after Jesus' death,
0:39.1	a Jewish general named Flavius Josephus, should name your your kid that it's kind of fun.
0:44.6	He's rallying his troops against the Romans and so he's got this ragtag band of
0:49.2	Galilean soldiers they're revolting against the world's most powerful military force.
0:55.0	And as the Roman legions near, Josephus's troops, they're not doing so well,
1:00.0	they're losing their nerve, and he's watching in horror as his so-called soldiers
1:04.0	begin to abandon their post and run for their lives. So he gets up to a high
1:08.4	place where he can see everybody running away and where they could hear him and he
1:12.4	projects his voice and he cries out to the deserters,
1:16.1	repent and believe.
1:18.0	Doesn't that seem kind of weird to you?
1:21.0	Why is the general yelling for his people to repent and believe? Well it didn't seem weird to his soldiers because they all
1:27.8	came back and you might understand why if you know that the Greek word for repent also means turn around and
1:35.0	the Greek word for believe or faith means give allegiance and so Josephus when
1:41.7	he's watching his men run away, he's actually yelling, turn around and give allegiance.
