| 0:00.0 | Thanks for listening to my call of the day podcast. You can hear my live radio program Monday through Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. Eastern time on serious XM. |
| 0:10.0 | Try and 1-11 mom and Evelyn. Welcome to the program. Hi. Hi. Hi Evelyn. How old are you? 5. And what is your question for me? |
| 0:24.0 | I think it's a good kid. What does it take to be a good kid? Are you thinking you're not a good kid? |
| 0:36.0 | So what makes you not a good kid? |
| 0:44.0 | I don't get what I want in my screen as well. I just like to say that I'm not good enough to get to earn stuff and be a better girl. |
| 1:00.0 | Well, mom is here. So let me ask her a few questions. Is that okay? Yes. Okay. Mom. Tell me something about Evelyn getting perhaps two things mixed up. |
| 1:20.0 | Not being a good kid or doing something annoying. They're not the same thing. Good kids. They're stupid stuff and they're still good kids. |
| 1:30.0 | Yeah. So she came up with this question and I had her sit on it for about a week but then she maintained that this is the question that she wanted to ask. |
| 1:39.0 | Okay. She wanted to call you specifically. So I think so what happens a lot is that she gets very, very, very upset about, you know, if she has to clean a room or she has to clean a play room. That's always a really big problem. |
| 1:55.0 | And so she does have consequences if she doesn't do what she's told to do. And so I don't know if she thinks that that means she's not a good kid. |
| 2:05.0 | Well, let's ask her. Do you think Evelyn? Do you think that means you're not a good kid because you don't clean up your room and asked? |
| 2:14.0 | Yeah. I get frustrated. It's just angry. I think I'm not a good kid. |
| 2:24.0 | I see. Okay. |
| 2:28.0 | Here's how I look at this. It's tough to learn. Okay. When you're born, what did mommy do? You won't, you don't remember, but she took care of you. She fed you. She bathed you. She cleaned you. She played with you. She took you outside. |
| 2:43.0 | She made sure you have medicine. She did everything for you. Everything was done for you. And then as you was, as you were a toddler, she took you for walks. She changed her clothes. She took you places. She had fun. She fed you. |
| 2:55.0 | Right? All this stuff happened for you. Right? |
| 3:00.0 | Well, as you become a bigger girl, that stops. |
| 3:07.0 | Now, you go back and forth. Mommy does all these nice things for you. And now, because you're older, it's your turn to do things for her, for dad, for any brothers and sisters. In other words, you show caring like your parents show caring. |
| 3:24.0 | So when you get angry that you have to clean your room, because mom always did it when you were little, this is part of the difficulty in starting to make the change to be a bigger girl. |
| 3:38.0 | So it's not that you're not a good girl. It's that you're learning how to be a bigger girl. And it's uncomfortable because you're used to having mommy and daddy do everything and how you have to do stuff. |
| 3:51.0 | You don't like it. Well, you like when mommy did stuff for you, as you get older and older and older and have friends and one day get married and one day have kids, you have to learn how to do for others. |
| 4:05.0 | So I think what you're having is a difficult time learning that you're not the baby anymore. You're a bigger girl. And that you're now capable and expected to do bigger girl things. |
