Hi, I'm Jim Denison with Denison Forum.

Thanks so much for being a part of this today, for listening to this conversation and

I've been writing in recent days on racism specifically with regard to the shooting of

0:20.4

Ahmad Arbery. The tragedy occurred last February, but only in recent days on racism specifically with regard to the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery. The tragedy

0:22.4

occurred last February, but only in recent days has it achieved the kind of publicity, the kind of

0:29.1

of leverage that it should have had across all these weeks and months. And so I'm trying to speak

0:35.0

into this really on two levels. First of all, to help people

0:37.9

understand the reality of the situation, to understand the reality of this issue. So many white

0:43.1

Americans like myself would like to believe that this issue is no longer as real as it used to be.

0:47.8

They'd like to say that because of civil rights legislation, because of progress that we've made,

0:51.7

this just isn't the issue that people like I think it is. So that's the one piece. And then the second piece is the question people have, what can I do about this? What difference can I make? So as I was thinking about trying to help people that are listening to this podcast and reading what I'm writing these days, understand the reality of this issue. So as I was thinking about trying to help people that are listening to this podcast

and reading what I'm writing these days, understand the reality of this situation, I immediately

1:15.9

wanted to have a conversation with my very dear friend Tyrone Johnson. Tyrone and I've been

1:20.7

working together for more than 20 years. He was the worship leader when I was pastor at Park

1:24.9

City's Baptist Church in Dallas. He and I've remained friends

1:27.5

over these years. Tyrone has led worship on our study tours in Israel more than 10 times, I guess, Tyrone now. We are neighbors. We live in the same community in North Dallas. And just to put it bluntly, I love him. He is my brother. He is one of my dearest friends. He's one of the most brilliant, one of the most anointed people that I know. He has a remarkable individual in a variety of levels. He has an

undergraduate degree in accounting from Dillard University in New Orleans, has a master's in

1:53.4

biblical studies from Dallas Baptist University, and yet he's a world-class musician.

1:58.4

As I've often said to Tyrone, how can you be an accountant and a musician? I don't
