Summary

What Does it Mean to Ask For Something In Jesus Name?  John 16:  Daily Devotional, Daily Bible Study In this episode, Rachael Groll talks honestly about the ache of saying goodbye to the people we love and how that same grief sits inside the story of the disciples as Jesus prepares to leave them. She explains how Jesus doesn’t ignore their fear or sorrow but promises something better — the Holy Spirit, the One who guides, comforts, and fills us with a joy the world can’t take away. Rachael explores what it looks like to surrender our need for control so we can experience real peace in the middle of life’s trials, and she shows how relational prayer becomes the place where that peace takes root. ☆Pick up a copy of my latest book:  Knowing God’s Voice  ☆Go Deeper and Learn to Hear God’s Voice: Knowing Jesus Course ☆Get Ad-Free Episodes, Bonus Content, and more here:  patreon.com/HearingJesus John 15 ☆To Learn More About Sponsoring a Child, check out Compassion International here: ➤  Sponsor a Child ☆Go on a trip with Rachael: Bible Study Live ☆Have a question for Rachael? Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

0:12.1

As my children have gotten older, there's been more opportunities to say goodbye. And that can be so hard. You know, dropping my oldest daughter off at college

0:24.3

for the first time and driving away and leaving her behind felt so hard. Taking my middle daughter

0:32.0

to the airport knowing that she was going on a nine months long mission trip driving away without her. It felt so hard.

0:40.7

And, you know, in those kinds of moments, yes, there's excitement and pride, but there's also a lot of

0:45.8

anxiety. And I think for anybody that's ever said goodbye to somebody, you know that your life won't stop when they're gone,

0:57.8

but everything feels a little bit different. I mean, right now it's Christmas time, if you're

1:02.3

listening to this as it's being recorded, and just even decorating our house for Christmas

1:07.2

feels so hard because thinking about one of my girls not being here for Christmas

1:11.5

feels hard. Today we're talking about those kinds of moments and it's actually a lot harder than

1:20.5

anything that I'm going through because my kids, I'm just saying goodbye to them temporarily,

1:25.2

but the disciples are getting ready to say goodbye to Jesus permanently.

1:30.1

At this point, they have walked with him. They have personally seen and experienced his miracles.

1:36.3

They have heard his teaching and they have been in the presence of the Lord. But now he's preparing

1:43.2

them for a future where they won't have him physically with

1:47.1

them. And to be perfectly honest, for them, that's a little unsettling. For me, knowing that my kids

1:54.2

aren't going to personally be with me, it's unsettling. Perhaps you've had similar situations

1:59.2

with people that you love moving away or family members passing on.

2:05.0

For these guys, Jesus has been their guide and their teacher and their rabbi and their constant companion,

2:11.9

teaching them every single day, and now they're knowing they're going to...

2:18.5

And now they're realizing that they're going to have to navigate life

2:22.5

without seeing him face to face every day.
