This is Radio West. I'm Doug Fabrizio.

In a press conference last week about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Utah Governor

Spencer Cox offered some remarks about political division that have gotten a lot of attention.

And in some part, it's probably

because they're seen as a contrast from what we've been hearing from other leaders like President

Trump. The governor said the problem with political violence is that we can always point to someone

on the other side. And so in that sense, the violence, the impulse for it, metastasizes.

The governor talked about trying to find an off-ramp for this kind of rhetoric.

I think we need more moral clarity right now.

I hear all the time that words are violence.

Words are not violence.

Violence is violence.

There is one person responsible

for what happened here.

And that person is now in custody

and will be charged soon

and will be held accountable.

And yet all of us have an opportunity right now to do something different.
