Hello and welcome to Coffee House Shots and Spectator's Daily Politics Podcast. I'm Katie Balls and I'm joined by Fraser Nelson and James Forsyth. The Prime Minister has been speaking this morning about the easing of lockdown with Boris Johnson due to set up a roadmap next week. He's said that when it comes to this plan, what he's looking for something,

which is cautious but irreversible. James, this comes as the government to hit its target of

vaccinating or offering a vaccination to the 15 million people who make up the top four

vulnerable groups. What is the mood in government like? Because in a way, they've hit their target.

Some people said they could not do that.

But yet, when it comes to the idea of easing restrictions,

all the reports there in the Sunday papers are very cautious,

some saying that restaurants might not even open before August.

So I think this is a crucial week in that this is the week that the government will get an assessment from Public Health England of what affects the vaccine program is having.

So at the moment, we know the numbers and the numbers are impressive.

The government has hit its target.

But what is this doing to, crucially, to transmission of the disease?

And that is what government scientists are going to give number 10 an answer on this week.

And I think that will determine the pace at which restrictions are eased.

I thought it was quite interesting that when Boris Johnson did his Face the Nation interview on US television on Saturday,

he was quoting approvingly that stat

suggesting that the Oxford vaccine reduces transmission by 67%. If that stat turns out to be accurate,
