A very good morning indeed to you. It is three minutes after 10 and you are listening to LBC.

Do you know, can I begin the program this morning by confiding in you?

It's close to the 40th day, I think, tomorrow of lockdown.

And do you know what I would really like to do today?

I would like to play some clips of Captain Tom reminding us that

we will come out the other side of this, talking about the sunny skies and inspiring us with his

frankly magnificent effort in the field of fundraising. I'd love to do an hour of just playing that

on a loop, perhaps inviting your calls about inspirational people who have touched you at this time

of unprecedented stress and strife. I'd love to do that. I'd also then, probably,

because it'd be easy to get the phones to ring and it won't really mean anything,

but we could at least kid ourselves

that we were indulging in a substantive debate. We could have a conversation about how important

it is or isn't that Matt Hancock's 100,000 tests a day target is reached. It'll be a right old

humdinger that, wouldn't it? For the record, I don't think it's that important. I think that

they've clearly managed to increase the capacity for the record, I don't think it's that important. I think that they've clearly managed

to increase the capacity for testing exponentially, which in normal circumstances would be a great

achievement. If he hadn't said the figure of 100,000, there wouldn't even be a story here.

That would be good, good old-fashioned classic phone-in radio. What do you think? Does it matter

or not? Won't change anything,

won't educate any of us in any way. We won't come out of the conversation in any way better

informed or better across the issues than we were before we went into it. But hey, never mind.
