It is, I think, fair to say, that the kind of people who ordinarily throw their toys out

of the pram when, for example, a cricketer returns from a test match series in order to

attend the birth of his baby will probably be queuing up now to claim that it's perfectly

feasible for the Prime Minister to take the day off if his

partner, his girlfriend, has given birth. And I just, do you know, don't get cross with me.

I probably think that he should do PMQs today. I think I would if I was Prime Minister

and Mrs. O'Brien had just given birth. But I don't think it would be right.

And this is no criticism of anybody who decides to do things differently.

I don't think it would be right to turn this into a debate or into a political football.

Not while the baby is, you know, is barely out.

I just feel it would be a little bit callous.

Well, not even callous, actually.

Just a little bit crass, you know?

So we will not be having a conversation now

about whether or not Boris Johnson should attend PMQs
