Probably feeling a little bit better than Jeremy Kyle, as it goes at the moment, having a project to which he's dedicated, I think about a decade and a half of his life and career, pulled from beneath him in a heartbeat. But of course, the immediate counter to that would be that many of the people who have appeared upon the program in recent years have had their lives thrown into turmoil by the experience as well. One of the benefits, that was one of the few benefits of being so egotistical and

self-absorbed that we very rarely book guests on this program or plan much in advance.

One of the, I mean, it drives producers absolutely potty. They age at a rate of knots on this

program because they turn on the radio at three minutes after ten and don't know what on earth

is going to be coming out of their own programming. But it does give us a degree of freedom, which means, as we just heard in the bulletin, they've axed to Jeremy Carl's show. So we'll talk about what we were going to talk about a little later and talk about that now. You can tell we're live, can you? So, what do you think?

I have to tell you, I thought I knew a bit about it, and indeed I did.

Some of the coverage has opened my eyes to elements of the programming with which I'm not familiar.

I am repeatedly drawn to the comments of the ex-fiance of the gentleman who

died after failing a lie detector test on the program and her insistence that the after care

provided by the program had been exceptional. I also have a bit of experience of working in...

Towards that end of television,

it's a sort of odd mark of my chequered alleged career,

that I've done the very high-end stuff,

and I've done some quite low-end stuff as well.

And I enjoy both.

It's just the nature of the beast.

One of the oddest things about British media is that it's very hard to be both. You would never ever these days have somebody, obviously considerably more talented than I am, but if somebody were to be a latter-day David Frost, the current climate, the industry would struggle to accommodate someone who can do comedy and very, very heavyweight
