Summary
'Oi! Are you looking at my Mrs?' 'Did you spill my pint? 'Outside now!'
We've all been there. A pub on a Friday night, booze flowing, beers getting spilled, people getting lairy. Then, everyone gets turned out onto the street at the same time. Bodies get shoved, you take a comment the wrong way and before you know it, you have an stumbly opponent rolling up their sleeves.
It can be scary and dangerous... but for some reason we accept that pub fights are just a side affect of drinking.
Today Vic and Hamish dig into drunk fighting, why did it start? Why do people do it? Whats happening in the brain? Why do we have a tendency to be more aggressive when under the influence?
As you may have guessed, these guys are lovers not fighters but even so, haven't managed to completely avoid the odd fisty pavement scuffle. Hamish even once politely stopped a fight whilst wearing a polo shirt.
They also find out about king hits, one punch attacks that lead to the deaths of many young people in Australia.

So did you know, Hamish, that bin's drinking increases the likelihood of not only becoming aggressive and angry, but also being on the receiving end of someone else's anger? Yes, I did know that. I'm not a total idiot. It's not a did you know kind of fact, that, is it? It's not a did you know kind of fact. No, it's like clearly you knew because you've drunk before and been in fights. Yeah. |
| 2:34.3 | Seen fights in my situation. So no, I did know that. I would say almost every fight I've ever seen has involved booze. Yeah, I would too. Except for maybe the fights on like sporting pitches. Yes. I've run the players swing at each other. There's no booze involved there. But yeah, every fight, high percentages of fights are booze. I would say 99% of fights are boozy. Anyway, we all know a night out can get messy. Someone might spill a pie on you. You might look at someone the wrong way. You might even grab the attention of someone for no reason at all. And sometimes after the pub closes, people spill out onto the street and |
