Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

Over the years, I've had a number of mentors who have essentially been responsible for changing my life.

There's a couple really significant people

that I'm so thankful for how God used them. And there's something really powerful about being

able to introduce those people to maybe my spouse or my kids. It's this powerful moment where I get

to say, this is someone that you really need to meet.

Well, that's essentially what's happening in today's passage.

John the Baptist sees Jesus coming to him, and he doesn't hesitate.

He says, behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

And so with one sentence, he reveals the identity and the mission of Jesus

in a way that no one had ever said before. That moment revealed something about Jesus, but it also

revealed something about John. John recognized Jesus when he was on the scene. He had been preparing for this moment his entire life.

And when the moment came, he did not miss it. And so today we're walking through verses 29 through 42

in John chapter 1. And this is where Jesus begins to step into public ministry. And he starts to call

his first disciples. We're going to look at how

John recognizing Jesus prepared the way for other people to recognize him and how when we recognize

Jesus, it can do the same for those around us. I'm going to go ahead and read verse by verse like we've been doing with the rest of John

chapter 1, starting at verse 29. The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said,

Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. So this is a massive moment. The day

after John's conversation with the religious leaders, which we talked about in yesterday's episode, he sees Jesus coming and he makes this bold declaration.

He says, behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

That word behold, it's actually a command to stop.
