Summary

As a followup to last week’s topic of making a career in commercial photography – this week I’ve been asked the obvious next question. What about fine art as a career for photography? This is a tough question to answer as its not unlike coming up with a strategy to be a rock star. Its near impossible if you don’t have the talent and the stomach to work for a long time. In this video I will explain.

Last week I did a video addressing a viewer question about commercial photography and what it's like to try to break into that business in this day and age.

And as we kind of concluded, it is extremely difficult between the diminishing opportunities and the increased competition.

We're in a day and age where opportunities for photographers are really becoming less and less on a commercial

And I knew this would happen, but inevitably I had several people reach out to me and they said,

And I'd never really discussed this on the show before.

And so I think it's probably important to go ahead and talk about.

talk about the high-end art market in the next show but anyway I want to address

But on the gallery level, you have to realize

that all galleries are not created equal.

There are many different kinds of galleries. On one end you have what I call

Ketch galleries and Kitch galleries tend to be in more touristy areas, usually in small towns near a large body of water, and they will deal in very safe. is usually made by

they will deal in very safe work,

usually made by local artists that have

depictions of sunsets or furry creatures that live in the area.

And this work generally goes at a much lower price
