or always playing catch-up or defense and very seldom on the offense.

Well, there's an exception to that.

West Virginia recently passed a

constitutional amendment banning assisted suicide. They did it proactively. Welcome back to Issues,

etc. I'm Todd Wilkin. Joining us to discuss that issue and a new report on assisted suicide in Canada,

Wesley Smith, he's senior fellow at the Discovery Institute Center on Human Exceptionalism.

He's a legal consultant to the patient's rights counsel, author of several books including

culture of death, The Age of Do Harm Medicine, and a recent column for National Review Online,

titled West Virginia Voters Enact Constitutional Amendment Banning, Assning assisted suicide. Wesley, welcome back.

Hi, Todd. How are you? I'm doing well. First of all, this West Virginia ban that was passed last week,

if you weren't really looking for it in the media, you would not have found it. Why so little media

attention to a really kind of a major step forward for a state?

Yeah, you know, this is the first actual proactive pushback of assisted suicide that we've seen

since about 1992, at least successfully done. And why the media didn't report it? Well, it was a presidential election,

which was pretty provocative and had a lot of news. But also, if you take a look at things

that the way the media reports on this issue, things that harm the agenda, the assisted suicide

agenda generally are either not reported or downplayed.

Things that help the agenda are hyper-reported and given prominence.
