Okay, friends. Gather around the phone as we do it again. Start a little Sunday night thing that we do

we call it the weekly pep talk. It is just a five minute little get together. It's me, it's you,

it's my mom, it's just here to put you in the right headspace. Get me into the week, give you a little

nugget of wisdom for your weekend. This one is called ordinary and I hope you enjoy and it's on the way

next. An ASMR guide for Marmite first-timers. First, toast your pillowy soft bread. Push that.

Liberally spread that butter. Stroke that Marmite open. Dip that knife and spread that.

Don't overload and taste that. Marmite. Love it. Hate it. Get it on.

As many of you who listen to this podcast often know, my friend Joel Hudson who was my priest and

dear friend died at age 90 in July and I have been reading a collection of articles that he wrote

during the 25 years that he was the priest at Christ Church and I came across one that was written

in October 1994 and I thought it was so wise for today, even 26 years later. So I wanted to share

that with you and hopefully these beautiful words of wisdom will resonate with you as well.

The articles entitled Ordinary. Extraordinary is our wish. We wish to be shrewd or funnier,

more successful, happier, prettier, more versatile, more informed, more secure, more admired,

more creative, more talented, etc. etc. than the ordinary person. The fact is that we want our kids

to be this way extraordinary, but the truth is that we want to be this way and we try to live

through them. We have already seen that extraordinary is beyond our grasp, some we yearn

for it still in the kids. Choice is the rocket we ride to the wonderful world of being special.

Our principal temptation is choice. The more choices you have, the better your life will be

and we were taught. So many things present themselves, so many choices and we pick them all.

We run our children crazy with activities, soccer, baseball, football, gymnastic, dance, music,

band, karate, scouts, art, swimming, golf. We wear ourselves and our cars out in frenzied
