As many of you who listen to this podcast often know, my friend Joel Hudson who was my priest and

dear friend died at age 90 in July and I have been reading a collection of articles that he wrote

The articles entitled Ordinary. Extraordinary is our wish. We wish to be shrewd or funnier,

more successful, happier, prettier, more versatile, more informed, more secure, more admired,

more creative, more talented, etc. etc. than the ordinary person. The fact is that we want our kids

to be this way extraordinary, but the truth is that we want to be this way and we try to live

through them. We have already seen that extraordinary is beyond our grasp, some we yearn

for it still in the kids. Choice is the rocket we ride to the wonderful world of being special.

Our principal temptation is choice. The more choices you have, the better your life will be

and we were taught. So many things present themselves, so many choices and we pick them all.

We run our children crazy with activities, soccer, baseball, football, gymnastic, dance, music,
