Summary
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. (2 Kings 2:9)
Elisha was Elijah’s protégé. Most scholars agree that he probably spent six years with Elijah, learning from him and serving him. He had big shoes to fill, and he knew it! When Elijah was readying to leave and be with the Lord, Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s power. This was a big ask, not because it was too big for God but because it meant a lot of responsibility. Elisha was ready because he hungered for God.
Elisha was not looking to be better than Elijah. He did not want to outdo his miracles and accomplishments. Elisha saw what God did through Elijah, and he wanted that too! Elisha wanted to carry on the work that his mentor started, and he understood that he needed more of God in order to do that.
Our kids are the future, and they will do amazing things for God’s kingdom. As their parents, we get to encourage them to seek after God and boldly ask for his presence and miracles in their lives. We get a front row seat to witness their journey of obedience. They don’t need more power, more popularity, more money, or more influence to make an impact on the world. What they truly need is a deep connection with God. The wonderful news is that as we draw closer to him, we inevitably develop a greater desire for him, recognizing that he is the source of our strength, joy, and peace.
This week, let’s pray that our kids hunger for God and that as they grow in faith they say, “more of you, God, less of me.”
Lord, give _________ a hunger for you. May they always look to you as the source of their abilities, knowing that their weaknesses are made strong in your presence. Help them to always recognize their need for you in their life and give them the confidence that they can do amazing things through you. More of you, less of them. Amen.

| 0:25.9 | is a part of a bigger podcast network called Christian Parenting. And so there's a great team there, |
| 0:31.9 | and they help me do what I do with ease because they're so awesome. But they wrote this journal |
| 0:36.8 | called A Great Cloud of Witnesses, |
| 0:38.4 | and it's basically just a parents' prayer journal, how we can go through every week of the school |
| 0:42.5 | year and pray very specifically for our kids. And this particular theme that we did this year is |
| 0:48.3 | about how we carry on a legacy of faith, how we can look back at the characters, people that are |
| 0:53.1 | ordinary, people that mess up, |
| 0:54.8 | all the people that are featured in the Bible, old and New Testament, and what we can learn |
| 0:58.9 | about God through them and what we can learn about ourselves and what we can pray for as it |
| 1:04.4 | relates to that character for our kids. |
| 1:06.7 | And so if you haven't joined us yet, now is a great time. |
| 1:09.6 | We're going to go the rest of the school |
| 1:10.8 | year every Monday, keep them short and sweet. But would you do me a favor? Would you tell someone about it if you're enjoying it? And you don't have to have the journal. It's great to have it because it gives you a place to write. There's a little devotional. And there's verses to look up. So it's great. you can still get it over at the site. I'll link in the show notes. |
| 1:28.4 | But invite somebody and just say, hey, come on over. Send them the episode on Monday and say, we'd love for you to let's pray together for our kids this school year. And then the second thing that would be really helpful is if you could leave a review. Wherever you listen to podcasts, leave a review so that other moms and dads as they're looking for a podcast for |
| 1:45.0 | parents, they can see what you think about it and would maybe join us for this new year. |
| 1:49.7 | So today's episode is Week 19, and we are praying about hunger for God, that our kids |
| 1:55.8 | have a hunger for God. And we know they're hungry. Can I get it? Amen. I don't have boys. I have girls, but they're |
