Good morning football. Hey, welcome to good morning football. We're here in New York City. It's a Wednesday at the end of March. I'm Jamie Erdall, Kyle Brandt, Jason McCordy, and then, of course, NFL defense to tackle. Michael Brockers with us for the next couple of days. Brock, how is your first hour of television? We always like to check in just to make sure you are willing to say that. I'm good. I'm good. You guys are making me feel like family, so I'm comfortable. You are now. All right, Brock Bertie became the unlikely hero in San Francisco last season by taking the Niners to the doorstep of Super Bowl 57 pending injury that brutally knocked him out of the NFC championship

49ers GM John Lynch called 30 the quote leader in the clubhouse to be their starter in

2023.

Interesting because once again, Tray Lance looms large.

1:05.8

Here's head coach Kyle Shanahan on how he's feeling about his three current quarterbacks.

1:12.6

Rock played eight games and won all of them and played at extremely high level.

1:16.6

And we're very excited to have that level of a player as our quarterback.

1:20.6

Now we believe Trey can be that.

1:22.6

I think he would have done it last year if he stayed healthy.

1:24.6

The good thing for him is with Brock being hurt and stuff, he has an opportunity to try to regain that and everything. And that's also what he brought in Sam because we can't be set for sure on Brock because you never know how the injury will go. We think it will go well and we're optimistic about it. But right now that's on hold. And so it opens up an opportunity for Trey and for Sam to come in and show us what they have. Just a wild set of circumstances for the quarterbacks in San Francisco once again, since there is mild level of uncertainty when it comes to exactly when Brock Purdy will be available again after undergoing surgery on that elbow injury that he sustained back in January.

Kyle Shanahan, all in all, despite looking frustrated maybe with injury history, he seems pretty happy with who he has in the quarterback room. So, an open quarterback competition on the horizon for the 49ers, perhaps. Kyle, you get to go first on this one. How does that make you feel as you think about what Brock Purdy accomplished last year? How does that make you feel? I feel for Shannie, man. I mean, he's been through hell and back. He's got a crash test dummy as

his quarterback. He's got that thing going where like, dude, the president ages really fast, you know, like Obama was getting the grades. You see it right away. Like, Shannie's going a lot of salt in that pepper. And I don't think it's

2:31.4

coaching. I don't think it's family. I think it's, I think

2:33.5

I might have two Super Bowl rings if I could keep a healthy

2:35.5

quarterback out there. Like my teams are

2:37.3

great. And I don't think it's coaching. I don't think it's family. I think it's, I think I might have two Super Bowl rings if I could keep a healthy quarterback out there. My teams are great. And we played the strangest playoff game of all time because this kid who won eight out of eight games just got hurt. My answer to the question is he and Lynch and all those guys need to just pray for the healing and the fast recovery of Brock Purdy and all the doctors taking care of him because if he comes up and he's ready to throw, it's him. This whole Trey Lance thing is this, we feel bad for the kid and we hope for him, but like you've proven nothing. You have no skins on the wall, and it's a terrible set of circumstances. It's just part of the football. You get hurt. Brock Purdy showed up and looked like a Disney movie right in front of us and was so good and so natural and then came out in a playoff game and was throwing screen passes with an injured arm so he showed the heart, he showed it all. It's just this, I don't, if he shows up and he's got a clean bill of health, I think Lynch is right. That's the guy. If he's, if he's hurt, then it's wildly complicated. And we'll talk about it for all of August.

3:25.8

Hope for prayer, rest. What do we do, Brock? We elevate, we ice, drink a lot of fluids, all that stuff. That's what you hope for for Brock Purdy, because if he shows up, he is the guy. He was awesome. Pick it right up. Am I wrong? I don't know, man.

3:37.6

You know, I love anybody named Brock, so you know I'm rocking the rock.
