I love the passages in the Bible where God tells us who we are.

Because a lot of times our problem in life is an identity crisis.

We think we know who we are and then we act like we think we know we are.

And God has to say, no, no, no, no, this is who you are. Now, act like it.

Hey friends, welcome back, Genesis chapter 35. In your Bible today, we are in verse 7, I believe.

Jacob is obeying the Lord.

He's heading back to a place he's very familiar with,

although nobody else in his family has ever been there.

It's a place called Bethel.

And Jacob actually named it the place.

Bethel means House of God.

And the reason why Jacob named it that is because when he was fleeing from Esau

20 years before this and was all by himself wondering if he would even survive,

God met him there.

And at that place, God affirmed that he was with him. God affirmed that in spite

of his deceptive nature, God had a promise that he was pushing forward by his grace, the Abrahamic

covenant. And years later, in the ministry of Jesus, we discover that Jacob's ladder actually was a picture of the Lord Jesus himself.
